Terms for Instructors and Driving Schools
Last updated: 9 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Drivora as a driving instructor (ADI or trainee PDI), a driving school, or someone acting for a school ("you"). By creating an instructor or school account, or by continuing to use one, you agree to these terms, the Data Processing Agreement, the Acceptable Use and Reviews Policy, and the Stripe Services Agreement (section 7).
1. Who we are
Drivora ("Drivora", "we"). Email: the contact address published on this page before launch. Legal notices: the contact address published on this page before launch.
2. Using Drivora for business
- Drivora is for business use. You confirm you are using it for your driving tuition business and not as a consumer.
- You must be 18 or over and legally able to run your business in the UK.
- If you act for a driving school, you confirm you are authorised to bind the school.
3. What we provide
We provide booking pages, scheduling, payments through Stripe, reminders, learner and parent accounts, progress tracking, bundles, waiting lists, refunds and reporting tools (the "Service"). We don't employ you, we don't give lessons, and we aren't your agent except for the limited purpose of collecting card payments (section 6).
4. Your responsibilities
You confirm, and will keep confirming while you use Drivora, that:
- You're qualified. You're on the DVSA register of approved driving instructors, or you hold a valid trainee licence, whenever you charge for car tuition (Road Traffic Act 1988, s.123). You describe your status accurately, and you tell us within 7 days if your registration or licence lapses, is suspended or is revoked.
- You follow the DVSA code of practice that applies to you, including the mandatory code once it takes effect.
- You're the seller of your lessons. You're the "trader" for consumer law. You're responsible for:
- your legal name, business address, phone and complaints details being complete and correct in your Drivora profile. We show them to learners before they book and in confirmation emails, as the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 require.
- your prices, lesson lengths and cancellation notice period being accurate and fair.
- honouring learners' statutory rights, including the 14-day right to cancel (see the Refund and Cancellation Policy). You can't set terms that take those rights away.
- Your advertising is honest. Pass rates, experience, "insured", "DBS checked" and similar claims must be true and evidence-based. You mustn't write, buy, incentivise without disclosure, or hide reviews.
- You're insured. You hold the motor and other insurance your business needs.
- You meet your own legal duties: tax and VAT, data protection (including paying the ICO data protection fee if you need to), safeguarding of learners under 18, and equality law.
5. Verification and badges
We check ADI or PDI numbers against DVSA information before showing a "verified" badge. We may remove a badge, or hide your booking page, if we can't verify you or your status changes. A badge is not a recommendation or a guarantee from us.
6. Payments, fees and payouts
- How card payments work. Learners pay by card through Stripe Connect. Each payment is made on your behalf: you're the merchant of record, and your business name appears on the learner's statement. We collect payments as your commercial agent, and a learner's successful payment counts as payment to you.
- Commission. We don't charge you commission on lessons.
- Stripe's card fee is yours. Stripe's processing fee on each card payment, including the part of the payment that is our booking fee, is deducted from your share. Typical UK card rates are on stripe.com/gb/pricing.
- Drivora booking fee. Learners pay us a 99p booking fee on each booking made through Drivora. It is ours, it's not part of your price, and it never reduces your lesson price.
- How the money is split. For each card payment, Stripe sends the full amount to your connected account, less an application fee to Drivora. The application fee is our booking fee plus Stripe's fee. It is first set at an upper estimate of Stripe's fee, and we refund any excess to you automatically as soon as Stripe confirms the actual fee, normally within seconds. You authorise this.
- Payouts. Stripe pays out to your bank account on the schedule shown in your Stripe dashboard. We don't hold your money.
- Cash. Cash lessons are paid to you directly. There's no booking fee for cash lessons.
7. Stripe
Payment processing services for instructors and schools on Drivora are provided by Stripe and are subject to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement (together, the "Stripe Services Agreement"). By agreeing to these terms or continuing to operate as an instructor or school on Drivora, you agree to be bound by the Stripe Services Agreement, as Stripe may modify it from time to time. As a condition of Drivora enabling payment processing services through Stripe, you agree to give Drivora accurate and complete information about you and your business, and you authorise Drivora to share it, and transaction information related to your use of Stripe's payment processing services, with Stripe.
Stripe processes your personal data as described in Stripe's Privacy Policy. Stripe's acquirer disclosures are shown during Stripe onboarding.
8. Refunds, cancellations, disputes and your balance
- Refunds come from your share. When a lesson payment is refunded, the refunded lesson amount is taken back from your Stripe balance. Stripe doesn't return its processing fee on a refund.
- If you cancel a paid lesson, the learner is refunded in full automatically, including the booking fee. You bear 50p of the refunded booking fee and Drivora bears the rest.
- If a learner cancels within your notice period, or within their statutory 14 days, refunds follow the Refund and Cancellation Policy.
- Disputes and chargebacks. If a learner disputes a payment with their bank, the disputed amount and the bank's dispute fee are taken from your balance. We handle the response to the bank on your behalf, using information you give us, and you agree to give us evidence promptly when we ask. If the dispute is won, the amounts are returned to you. If it is lost, the cost of the 99p booking fee is shared 50/50 between you and us.
- Authority to debit. You give us your legally binding consent to recover these amounts by reversing transfers or debiting your Stripe balance (Stripe "account debits"): refunds, disputes, dispute fees, your share of booking-fee splits, and correction of errors.
- Negative balance. If your balance goes negative, Stripe may recover it from future payments or debit your bank account. If it can't, you must repay us within 14 days of our request.
9. Subscriptions (Drivora Pro)
- Plans and price: Drivora Pro costs £15 a month or £150 a year , billed in advance through Stripe. Trainee (PDI) instructors get Pro free until they qualify.
- Renewal: plans renew automatically until you cancel. For annual plans we'll email you at least 30 days before renewal.
- Cancelling: cancel any time in Settings → Billing. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't refund part periods, except where the law requires it or we have ended your access without cause.
- Price changes: we give at least 30 days' notice, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
- Buying Pro: Pro is sold on our website only. It isn't sold in the iOS or Android app.
10. Your booking page and our platform rules
Under the Platform-to-Business Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 as it applies in the UK):
- Suspending or restricting your account. We may suspend, restrict, or hide your booking page if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we reasonably suspect fraud, unqualified tuition or risk to learners, if we can't verify you, or if the law or Stripe requires it. We'll give you a written statement of reasons when it takes effect, or before it does where we can, and a chance to respond.
- Ending your account. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice, with reasons, unless the law requires otherwise, you have repeatedly broken these terms, or there is a risk to learners.
- Ranking: Drivora doesn't currently rank instructors in search results. If we add search or ranking, we'll publish the main ranking factors here.
- Changes to these terms: at least 15 days' notice (longer where the change needs you to make technical or business changes), except where the law requires faster change or to deal with fraud or security.
- Your data: you can export your pupil, lesson and payment records at any time, and for 30 days after your account ends.
- Complaints about how we treat you: email the contact address published on this page before launch. We'll reply within 10 working days.
11. Reviews
Learners who have completed a lesson can review you. You can reply publicly and report a review that breaks our Acceptable Use and Reviews Policy. You can't approve, hide or delete reviews yourself. We decide on reports using that policy. You can feature reviews, but you must not feature only positive ones in a way that misrepresents your overall rating.
12. Data protection
- For the pupil, parent and enquiry records you keep on Drivora, you're the controller and we're your processor. Our Data Processing Agreement forms part of these terms and meets UK GDPR Article 28.
- For learners' and parents' own Drivora accounts, payments and booking fees, Drivora is an independent controller under our Privacy Policy.
- Schools: where a school and its instructors both use Drivora, the school is the controller of pupil records in its account, and instructors act for the school.
13. Acceptable use and content
You must follow the Acceptable Use and Reviews Policy. Lesson notes and messages to learners, including under-18s, must be professional and appropriate. You give us a licence to host and display the content you add, such as your profile, photos and prices, so we can run the Service.
14. Liability
- Nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.
- Neither of us is liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for indirect loss.
- Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the greater of the subscription fees you paid us in those 12 months and £100.
- You are responsible for, and will reimburse us for, losses caused by your lessons, your breach of law (including consumer, data protection and road traffic law), or your breach of these terms.
15. Ending these terms
You can close your account at any time once your subscription has ended and any refunds, disputes or negative balance are settled. Sections 8, 12, 14 and 16 continue after closure.
16. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies. You may not transfer these terms. We may transfer them to a buyer of our business, and we'll tell you if we do.
